Frequently Asked Questions

General

How Do I Know the Practitioner Is Properly Qualified?
Lee qualified as a GDC registered practitioner in 2001. He has undertaken extensive training for all the treatments that we offer. If you would like further reassurance, please look online at the General Dentistry Council’s list of Registered Practitioners. Being a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group (ACE) and the Northern Aesthetic Practitioners Group (NAPG) means they speak with other professionals and experts in aesthetics to perform best practice. He is fully insured with the Dental Defence Union and Cosmetic Insure.
Is LW Aesthetics Regulated and By Whom?
Lee is regulated by the General Dental Council and follows best practice guidelines. LW Aesthetics is also a member of the Cosmetic Redress Scheme which is a government authorised consumer redress scheme designed to protect the patient’s interests regarding legislation, code of practice or unfair treatment.
What Happens If I Have A problem or I am Not Happy With the Result?
We offer all patients follow-up appointments at no additional cost and we will see you as soon as possible for any problems or concerns should they occur. We also provide direct contact numbers for both the practitioner and clinic, as well as an e-mail address, so you will never be far away from a point of contact.
Will I Need A Medical?
All patients are asked to complete a detailed medical history questionnaire for review by their practitioner, together with a consent form. Both are easy to complete and are straightforward.
Can Treatment Be Performed on The Same Day?
For new patients, a consultation is always required first. Most treatments could be undertaken on the day. However, we strongly recommend that patients have time to reflect on any proposed treatment and rebook an appointment. Also, dependent on the treatments, there may be inadequate time to undertake both a consultation and a treatment in one session.
What Payments Do You Accept?
We accept cash, and the following credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, Debit Cards, Maestro (formerly Switch), Solo and American Express.
What If I Have A Complaint?
We are committed to providing a professional service to all our patients. However, we do have a complaints procedure in place and if for any reason you are unhappy with the treatment and feel you want to make a complaint or comment on the service provided, please either contact a member of staff at the clinic or call for further details. We will deal with any matters arising promptly and as efficiently as possible.
Is There a difference Between Men and Women Having Treatments?
Facial shape and proportions can be quite different between men and women and, as such, treatment techniques need to be adapted. Men will generally have more powerful muscles relevant to anti-wrinkle injections. All this is assessed at the consultation stage
I’ve Heard of the 8-point Facelift; Do You Offer This?
More recently treatments such as the 8-point lift have been promoted. However, this rather generic approach to facial volumizing has fallen out of favour. Each person’s face should be treated as an individual and treatment adapted to address this. There may be elements of this injection strategy used in some cases.
Do you ever Turn People Away?
There are several reasons that a practitioner may consider that a treatment is not a suitable option for an individual and we have patient selection criteria to ensure that patients are medically and psychologically fit to undergo a particular treatment. It is therefore possible that we may advise, in your best medical interests, that the procedure is not appropriate. We will also not proceed with a procedure if we feel that your expectations exceed the results achievable from such surgery or if it is something you absolutely do not need or will not benefit from.
Is It Safe to Receive anti-wrinkle/ dermal filler injections if I am pregnant or have just had a baby?
As described in the previous answer, we would normally advise that a year is left postpartum. Under no circumstances is treatment undertaken on those who are pregnant and it is not recommended for those who are trying to conceive.

Fillers

What Are Dermal Fillers?
Most fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid which is sugar and water.
What Will Happen During Tx?
During the treatment appointment, which is sometimes at the same time as the consultation, consent forms are signed, photographs are taken, and the treatment is completed. Please be aware that any makeup worn around the treatment area will need to be removed, both for the consultation and for the procedure.
How Quickly Will I Notice Results?
Results are apparent fairly quickly. However, we do advise a period of a few weeks for the product to integrate into the skin fully.
How Long Will the Treatment Last?
Treatment time depends on which area is being treated but typically will last around 30 minutes. The duration of results can vary from person to person, dependent on the product, but typically from around 6 months to 18 months is common.
Is It Safe?
At LW Aesthetics we only use products that have FDA approval or CE mark. Our products of choice are, Belotero, Teosyal, Juvéderm and Restylane. All have excellent safety records.
Are There Side Effects?
This would need to be discussed at consultation but there can be increased likelihood of some slight swelling, reddening and/or minimal bruising. There are other complications that may be relevant which would be discussed further.
Will Fillers Make My Face Change? I Don't Want It To Look Overdone
As with all treatments, our aim at EV Aesthetics is a ‘less is more’ approach, particularly for those having treatments for the first time. We are far more comfortable having patients return for review and adding more product if needed. We want to enhance and freshen your look. The aim isn’t to make you look twenty years younger, just a fresher version of you.

For beautification treatments, to enhance cheeks, lips or jawlines in younger patients, the fashion is very much to have a fuller look. We will always endeavour to be honest and advise if we feel that a treatment may be too much. This must be the practitioner’s responsibility.

What Is the Difference Between a Needle and a Cannula?
This is merely the way the filler is delivered to the treatment area. Needles are very accurate but have a higher chance of causing bruising as they are sharp. Cannulas, which are effectively blunt needles, are usually less likely to cause side effects and in certain areas of the face are safer to use. However, they are usually less accurate in product placement. It is usually by whichever means the practitioner feels comfortable using.
Post Tx Care?
This can vary tremendously from person to person and on what part of the face is being treated. For example, the lips tend to swell for a few days whereas other areas far less so. Bruising is always a possibility, as well as some tenderness in the treatment area, all of which are usually short-lived. If filler treatment is being undertaken, we usually recommend having no important occasions that same week as a precaution.

Aqualyx

What Is Aqualyx?
Aqualyx is a hydrous, micro-gelatinous solution that was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese. The active substance contained in Aqualyx, desoxychol-acid, a secondary bile acid, is also known as an ‘immune vitamin 3’, and is a naturally occurring acid within the human body that has an essential function concerning the digestion of fat.
What Will Happen During Tx?
Dependent on the area treated, the skin is prepped, photographs taken, and the product administered. Typically for pre-jowl and neck fat, the treatment will take no longer than 15-30 minutes.
How Quickly Will I Notice Results?
This can take up to two weeks.
Is It Safe?
Yes, the active substance contained in Aqualyx, desoxychol-acid, a secondary bile acid, is also known as an ‘immune vitamin 3’, and is a naturally occurring acid within the human body that has an essential function concerning the digestion of fat. In order to guarantee a minimal adverse effect after intralipotherapy with Aqualyx the active substance was cased with galactose, as well as supplied with an additional two hydroxyl compounds for an increased degree of efficiency of the substance. The active phase is around six minutes.
Are There Side Effects?
Yes, almost all cases (approx. 80%) will have a degree of swelling, reddening and bruising. This can be described as moderate to severe. There may also be a degree of discomfort afterwards.
Post Tx Care?
Nil for head and neck. For body treatments we would recommend compression garments.

Botox™

What Is Botox™?
Also known as muscle relaxants and anti-wrinkle injections, the product is a natural protein that is mixed with sterile water prior to injection.
What Will Happen During Tx?
For new patients a consultation is always required first. This is because muscle relaxants are classed as prescription items and, as such, a face-to-face assessment is required. When a second treatment appointment is made, consent forms are signed, photographs are taken, and the treatment is completed.

Please be aware that any makeup worn around the treatment area will need to be removed, both for the consultation and for the procedure.

How Long Will the Treatment Last
The procedure itself is very quick, usually taking less than 5-10 minutes once seated.
How Quickly Will I Notice Results?
This can vary from person to person but on average around 2-5 days, with maximum effect at two weeks. Therefore, we would generally never review a treatment before two weeks. Most results tend to last around three months before a gradual return of muscle movement.
Is It Safe?
Generally, the procedure is very safe and effective. However, it is still a medical procedure and needs to be performed in a clean environment with excellent cross-infection control by a medical practitioner.
Are There Side Effects?
Again, although this usually a very safe and effective treatment, side effects are possible. These can be injection-related and product-related. This is discussed in detail during your consultation.
Will Botox™ Injections Freeze My Face and Make Me Expressionless?
Our aim at LW Aesthetics is a ‘less is more’ approach, particularly for those having treatments for the first time. Muscle Relaxants is a product that once administered cannot be removed. We are far more comfortable having patients return for review and adding more product if needed, and there is no additional cost for this.

There are some patients who specifically request to have a very strong result. We appreciate that this is personal preference but will always try and guide people to a more natural, fresh-looking result.

Post Tx Care?
Very minimal downtime. Individuals can return to work or their normal routine straightaway.

Teeth Whitening

What Is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening or more specifically teeth bleaching is a way of cleaning the outer layer of teeth of organic matter from food and drink. It is this food and drink debris that results in teeth becoming discoloured, or more yellow, over time.

Whilst brushing and visits to the dental hygienist can eliminate most of the surface staining, this deeper staining inside the enamel requires direct application of products.

The most effective product for this  is called hydrogen peroxide/carbamide peroxide, which works by breaking down organic matter and thus removing staining.

What Will Happen During Tx?

A consultation is  required to assess if your teeth are suitable for whitening. If they are, impressions are taken and sent to a dental laboratory. Using  moulds from these impressions,  custom made trays are constructed. The trays are returned to the dentist to be sterilised and then supplied, along with the bleach, to you and instructions on how to use them.

How Quickly Will I Notice Results?

This can vary from person to person and also depends on how white you wish your teeth to be. Typically, most people notice brightening within a week.

How Long Will the Treatment Last?

This is lifestyle dependant. If you drink lots of tea, coffee and red wine or smoke, then results will last for a shorter period.

We always advise of the need for maintenance, a little bit like maintaining a suntan, so you would need to wear the trays maybe two or three times a month. They can also be used a few days  before a night out or other social occasion.

Is It Safe?

Provided that treatment is provided by a dentist, then yes, it is generally a very safe procedure.

Are There Side Effects?

Occasional sensitivity to temperature.

Post Tx Care?

Aftercare of trays is  needed which is discussed at your consultation/treatment appointments as well as advise on how to manage any potential sensitivity.

Any other advice?

We would strongly recommend you have a check-up with your own registered dentist in the last six months. Although we will undertake an oral examination to make sure your suitable.

Did you know it is now a criminal offence for anyone other than a dentist to offer any form of direct teeth whitening, regardless of the product used.
